Savior is the first track released on DRÖM (Dream Label Group’s EDM Arm) from Chris Howland.
The track is a more commercial-sounding House track (compared to the Deep House style of some of Chris’s other productions) and features the vocals of (fellow Dream artist) Joel Vaughn.
“A weary soul, feeling rest for the first time”
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
The lyrics are all rooted firmly in scripture and the vocals are processed in a way that accentuate the “story” of a life being turned around by an encounter and relationship with God – they seem to get brighter as the track progresses.
“A heart grown cold, feeling fire from the inside”
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32 NIV)
Musically, this track is bright and uplifting using catchy hooks, melodically similar but with a mix of synths/pads and piano chords at different stages to add depth and variety.
“My eyes once closed, now opened wide”
“Blessed are your eyes because they see” (Matthew 13:16 NIV)
The production quality on this track is really high and, as with previous tracks (see our earlier reviews of Howland’s other releases), the great thing about this one is the seamless blending of good quality dance music with explicitly stated spiritual truths and and desire to share the goodness of our God through his the music he puts out.
“You are my Savior”
And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. “Turn to me and be saved (Isaiah 45:21-22 NIV)
We have an interview with Chris coming very soon so look out for that (as well as further releases on DRÖM coming in the near future).
