It seems strange, and also quite sad, that the first track we are featuring from Kubiks (AKA Doug Ross) on Found Beats is his last foray into the Drum & Bass arena (unless he has a change of heart).
“This is my last drum & bass offering to a scene that I gave over 15 years to. Its been a good run and no one better to write the departing track with than the man who was responsible for getting me into production, Andy Hunter. Enjoy.”
Teaming up with legendary Christian DJ/Producer, Andy Hunter, and vocalist Beth Bullock (who fans of Andy Hunter will know from his tracks “Harmony” and “Spiral”), R.U.N is a high-energy track with gritty bass riffs. The lyrics speak of the shelter, refuge and peace we can find in God in times of trouble.
This message is emphasised through the breakdown where ethereal chords and delicate piano riffs bring a sense of peace and tranquility before building back into the main drop.
Kubiks, having released tracks on some of the biggest labels including Liquid V, Spearhead and Rubik Records, will be missed from the Drum & Bass scene but is definitely going out on a high with this release.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:1-3 NIV)
If you want to hear more from Kubiks, it’s well worth downloading his retrospective album “Breaking The Mould” available from his Bandcamp page.
