What better way to kick off 2017 than with some chunky house goodness from micFreak. Out later this month on Deeplife Records, Save Me EP consists of Dub and Vocal Edits of 2 tracks – “Save Me” and “Marching”.
“Save Me” has more of a classic house vibe with it’s 808 style snares, swinging hi-hats, piano/synth riffs and soulful vocals.
The lyrics (“Can you save me, from the pictures in my mind”), seem to speak of someone desperate to be released from things that they have seen that are haunting them. The words, for me, served as a reminder of Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”.
“Marching” is a driving house cut. All of the elements of the track act in support of the lyrics which state: “You got me marching to the beat of the drum, I wanna go home but I’m having too much fun”.
The track is a mix of pulsing synths/bass loops, beats that push things along and synth hook that adds the element of fun to the track.
For those that want to use the instrumentals to layer up a mix, the Dub Edits are a useful tool. For me, the tracks are best with the vocals.
“Save Me EP” is a strong start to 2017 for Deeplife Records and continues the run of consistently high quality releases we saw from the label through 2016.
